A Narrative Inquiry into the Experiences of Academic Procrastination in High school Students
Kim Eun-Jin

Kang Seung-Hee
Abstract
This study sought to understand high school students who are prone to academic procrastination and ascertain the meaning of their experiences. A qualitative narrative inquiry study design was used and nine participants, with current or prior history of academic procrastination, were interviewed: (1) 3 boys in a focus group, (2) 5 girls in a focus group, and (3) 1 girl with a high accomplishment. Data was collected using a semi-structured interview during the initial meeting; open-ended questions were utilized in subsequent interviews. Narrative inquiry methods of constant comparative analysis and theoretical sampling were used to analyze the audiotaped interviews and verbatim interview transcripts. Academic procrastination is not a single, fixed aspect, so this paper suggests that a more diversified approach to academic procrastination is needed.
